Brian ‘Love Shack’ Lynn Drops B-52 Bags on ACL Charlotte Regional 2
The ACL Charlotte Regional 2 featured players traveling in from different parts of North and South Carolina to compete on Sunday at Three Spirits Brewery. Not sure if was the High Gravity (High Alcohol) beer ‘Love Shack’ Lynn first enjoyed before starting play or his broken in Beer Belly bags that seemed to always find its target, but that combination plus Love Shack’s skills sent everyone home dazed and confused about how he just exploded on the competition.
In a stout Open Division Singles Tournament field, Lynn went through the Winners Bracket with out dropping a match. In the semi finals he took out Casey ‘The Machine’ Frye 21-4 and then battled The Pilot, Danny Blanks, to a 21 – 19 Winners Bracket Final result. Blanks blitzed Frank Modlin earlier, 21 – 2, to send Modlin to the L-Dog Bracket. Modlin got his revenge beating Blanks, 21 – 19, to give Blanks a 3rd place finish and Modlin advance through the L-Dog bracket to face off against Lynn in the Championship Match. Lynn proved to be too much by winning the final match 21 – 15.
ACL Charlotte Regoinal 1 winner, Eric ‘The Reaper’ Ryder, went into the L-Dog after dropping his first match of the day to Jeff Johnson (JJ). 21 – 16. He ran through the L-Dog beating Derek Holland and Jimmy ‘Airbender’ Allegra along the way before succumbing to Frank Modlin to finish in fourth place. Josh Holland and Casey ‘The Machine’ Frye had strong days finishing in the 5th and 6th spots after making to to the semi finals of the Winners Bracket.
The Open Division Doubles Tournament provided plenty of excitement for those not glued to the Giants vs Cowboys game at the bar. Looking at the draw it seemed obvious that the team of Modlin / Guthary or Ryder / Wright would win. Scott Furr and Seth Eudy said not so fast my friends and blitzed the field by not dropping a match to take home the first place points and cash prize. They took out Eric Ryder and Roger Wright, 21-17, in the finals of the Winner Bracket and met them again in the Championship Match that ended 21 – 19. Ryder and Wright defeated Lynn and the Booty ‘Big Shady’ Idol, 21 – 17 to give the Triad boys a Third Place Finish. Jimmy Allegra and Derek Holland finished in Fourth Place which meant that Modlin and Guthary had no chemistry and no cash on this day.
The Social Division was small in numbers but high in passion for competitive play. Kaylee Renegar took out a field of men to win the Singles. She partnered up with her man, AJ Machin, to win the Doubles against Joe Whitten and Jerry Guerra. The generosity award the day went to Don Reed. He held up the Singles Bracket for a good cause, providing everyone with Little Caesars Pizza. That was a much needed stable to offset the sophisticated high alcohol content beers provided by Three Spirits Brewery. We are looking forward to the next throwdown in October.
Got something to say?
