THE PASSION IN THE ROOM
This morning I was awakened by a dream of the desert, a memory or collection of memories that seemed to stem from our time in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Johnsonville Cornhole Championships series last March. My dream involved some fact, some mostly fictional scenarios or desires even, and perhaps even a glimpse of the future. The important thing about this dream is that it inspired some thought about what we are doing or trying to do for the ever growing sport of cornhole. Where does growth come from? How do we go about cultivating the continued growth of this sport that we all seem to love and cherish so much?
Perhaps this is a result of my realization of the cruel fact that I physically left a part of me behind, due to an unfortunate trailering accident. However, I honestly feel that I gained something in Las Vegas as well..as much or more as one may gain by spending a full week in the City of Sin. What I gained… was a greatly increased recognition of the passion on display by the players of this sport, it’s enthusiastic and supportive fans, the directors and organizers that work so hard to put the sport of cornhole in the spotlight and bring together people from all around the globe to do what they love. The opportunity to compete on multiple skill levels and be a part of a professional league isn’t something you see terribly often. Most professional leagues are reserved for the elite players and then you have smaller leagues that feed into them to try and foster the growth of those respective sports.
This continued passion is what will ensure the growth of cornhole as a sport. The passion that is a burning desire wrought out of love for the sport and for the people in it and around it will provide all the nourishment that it will need to garner its’ existence and continued maturation.
This is what I refer to as the passion in the room and yeah each invidual brings a different level of passion in their pseudo-passion bucket, but it is the collective passion in the room that enables these types of entities to grow and succeed.
