Eric ‘The Reaper’ Ryder Slays the Competition at ACL Charlotte Regional 1

Eric ‘The Reaper’ Ryder showed up with bad intentions on Sunday at Sugar Creek Brewery. He put on a performance that would have made Tom ‘DeflateGate’ Brady and the entire New England Patriots organization proud to have him sporting their gear while. There was some chatter around the Brewery that he might have been using deflated bags. Regardless, The Reaper made an impressive run to win the Open Singles and cruised through the Open Doubles with one of his favorite partners, Roger Wright.

In Singles, Ryder took out Brian ‘LoveShack’ Lynn in the semi finals, 21-11, but fell victim to Jimmy ‘Airbender’ Allegra, 21-17 in the Finals of the Winners Bracket. He had to battle and advance against LoveShack again in the 3rd place match, 21-18 to get another shot at the Airbender. Ryder’s first game in the final match was extremely tight. He took down the Airbender 21-19, 21-10 to avenge his earlier loss.

In the Doubles, Ryder and Wright, defended their NC State Championship win in style by going through the bracket without dropping a match. Their closest match was a 21 – 15 win against Derek Holland and Jimmy Allegra in the second round. Doo Ragg and Terry Stidem played well together and finished in 2nd place by only dropping matches to Ryder and Wright (21-12, 21-0). Doo Ragg and Stidem beat Danny Blanks and Shane Andrews 21 – 9 in the 3rd Place. Blanks and Andrews dropped their first round match against Allegra and Holland, 21-2, but battled through the Losers Bracket. They got some revenge and put Holland and Allegra in fourth place by beating them 21-1.

One of the things we learned at this first ACL Regional was that Cory ‘Vitamin C’ Shook is an excellent babysitter. Our caption for this picture is…”All Kids Need Their Vitamin C”. Share your caption with us on Facebook.com/QueenCityCornhole
